USA: Rebecca Lochmann and Carole Engle have been elected to key positions in the World Aquaculture Society,reported PB Commercial.
Lochmann, fish nutritionist, was named president-elect.
Engle, director at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Aquaculture/Fisheries Center, was appointed as director on the organization’s board.
A member of the society since 1989, Lochmann has served as director and president of the US chapter and currently serves as secretary of the World Aquaculture Society and chair of the policies, rules and regulations committee.
Her vision is to strengthen the ability of the society to promote and expand responsible aquaculture worldwide, by improving communication and coordination of efforts among different sectors of the society and external stakeholders.
Engle has been a member of the society since 1988 and is a past-president and former director of the US Aquaculture Society, a chapter of WAS. She was active on the USAS board during the development of student subunits and encouraged students at UAPB to form one of the first subunits. Engle used her involvement and leadership in both the society and the International Association of Aquaculture Economics and Management to foster a closer relationship and to engage more economists with aquaculture scientists of WAS.
