Tilapia Aquaculture Improvement Project Meeting Held in Senegal

The meeting reviewed planning activities for 2014; advancing sustainability indicators defined by the project, a review of the implementation plans of management models and improvement of existing facilities.

Senegal: The ITHACA (Improving Tilapia Aquaculture in Africa ) project is now in its second year of operation. The main objective of the project is to contribute to improving aquaculture production of tilapia in Africa and through this, generate employment and income.From 23 to 27 May, the second meeting of the project, led by NIOF (National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries of Egypt) was held in Senegal.

The meeting reviewed planning activities for 2014; advancing sustainability indicators defined by the project, a review of the implementation plans of management models and improvement of existing facilities.To increase the level of knowledge for tilapia production in Senegal, visits were made to ??sites in the country and labs and facilities were visited in Dakar to see how a network of institutions that can contribute to supporting the improvement of aquaculture in Senegal can be established.
